The DMC phenomena continues at Arkham Shanghai with its official after party celebration with 2016 China DMC World DJ Championships judges on decks are the Asian turntablist master DJ Kentaro, Kid Fresh, LJ, Cavia, special guests EDI and the 2016 China DMC World DJ Champion!
DJ Kentaro is a DJ Producer and scratch master turntablist from Japan, the Asia turntablist maestro! DJ Kentaro is a mad dexterous surgeon, who slices and dices beats into a breathtaking concoction in his Sendai laboratory and at events all over the world. He first entered the consciousness of the global music community by scoring a landslide victory at the world’s biggest DJ battle, the DMC World DJ Championships in 2002, to become the first ever Asian Champion of the World. The legend seamlessly toyed with track after track, cutting vocals, double-dropping and then juggling rolling D’n’B tracks to play them at half the tempo and consequently reworking the composition and re-imagining the genres.
Hailing from Germany, Kid Fresh is a scratch DJ & turntablist that’s been beat juggling for over 12 years, while winning 3 Worldwide & 5 National DMC/ITF DJ Champion belts. From releasing on Diplo’s Mad Decent imprint to founding infamous turntablist crew ‘Lordz of Fitness’, Kid Fresh’s deep crates from dancehall, hip hop, tropical bass to UK funky has taken him from Berlin to Bangkok playing alongside the likes of Major Lazer, A-Trak, DJ Craze, to Q-Bert & more.
LJ isn’t a stranger to the Shanghai scene. Once a semi-regular DJ here a while back, over the last few years he has been honing his skills in his home town of GiuYang and is now ready to come back to Shanghai and show everyone what he has learnt. LJ has some serious skills on the turntables, and he takes DJing very seriously. Its been a good few years since I’ve seen him play a set but he tells me he’s been mixing in a lot of Jungle to his Hip-Hop sets recently so its going to be interesting to see what he comes out with.
Winner of the China DMC Championship, DJ Cavia is one of the most skilled and acclaimed DJs in China. Cavia has shared the stage and headlined with artists including Skrillex, Diplo, Laidback Luke, Zeds Dead, Jazzy Jeff, DJ Shadow, DJ Krush, DJ Q-Bert, Grandmaster Flash, A-Trak, Daddy G (Massive Attack), and Ghostface Killah (Wu-Tang Clan). He has performed as the official after-party DJ for celebrities such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and FC Bayern Munich and collaborated with brands including Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Audio, Mercedes-Benz and Budweiser. Crossing over into the world of art, Cavia has created works of music for 789 Beijing Commune, K11 Museum, Art Basel Hong Kong and Power Station of Art.
One of the members of Dum Due founded on 2003, DJ Edi is one of the most well respected hip-hop artists in Guangzhou. In 2005 at age 20, he was selected to play with DJ kRUSH. Since then, many hip-hop parties in China continue to book him again and again. He was one of the finalists in 2008 World DJ Championship China, and was the DJ for Kobe, LeBron James and Kevin Durant’s China Tour. DJ Edi was the champion of NIKE ALL-STARS Battle Night in 2011 and also one of the judges of Pioneer Southern China DJ Battle every year in China. DJ Edi has become one of the most well known DJs in southern China by his excellent scratch technics, and his club, electro and trap music style.
